Championship Spelling Contest for Grades 4, 5, and 6
4 School Champions from Each Grade Level plus 1 Extra were selected as champions from their own classroom Spelling Bees. Then these 13 Champs competed in the School Multi-Purpose Room in front of their Peers, Parents, and Relatives!
Each Competitor was randomly assigned a number.
They bravely approached the microphone while the audience and the 2 Judges watched and listened!
Mr. Stathis says, "Your word is...." He gives the word spoken carefully, and the Contestants can 1) Ask for it to be repeated; 2) Ask for it to be used in a sentence; and 3) Ask for the word's definition.
Each Champ, when ready carefully spells-out the word letter-by-letter. The RULE is that once they say a letter they cannot change their mind.
If the Competitor gets the word correct, the Judges raise a Green Flag. If he or she is wrong, the Judges raise a red flag and the Class Champ knows he or she missed it and is out.
All the Champs made it through Round 1 and Round 2 successfully, and sat back down and got ready for their turn in Round 3!

Students courageously approached the microphone turn after turn, facing knowing with each new round the words were getting more and more difficult!
Christian worked hard studying for this contest!
This is a little scary but it's fun too!
Citlaly was a Class Champ last year also. She proceeded this year as Champ and went many many rounds successfully.
Jaelyn practiced practiced practiced her spelling. She approached each new work in the contest with enthusiasm!
"Ohhh, I made it so many rounds...I hope I get this word right!" ....Correct! You got it!
Students got used to the pressure and pressed-on with all their BRAIN POWER!
Speaking your knowledge in front of an audience, and Judges judging you, is a great and honorable skill!
"Whoa..this is a tough one...but I have to try it!"
....the words in this round that those other kids had were tough. I bet mine is too!

Now 3 were left to compete for 2 Championship spots! It's amazing how many correct words all these kids got to get to this Round!
The audience was anxious to see who would finally win this incredible competition!
And then the last word......
Mr. Stathis said to the students in front of the audience to hear too: "Remember, all of you are already champions because you won a tough competition in your Classrooms."
"And ALL of you were AMAZING today!""
Hip Hip Hoorah! It was a Friendly Compeition. Everyone honored one another for being part of it together. All are friends in the end!
The 2 SCHOOL CHAMPIONS were #1 Christian, and #13 Caleb! Each received a Trophy and 2 months later went on to compete at the Soloano County Spelling Bee against all the 90 School Champions from 45 other Schools!
